The power in your home is used first from the solar panels, secondly from the batteries, then lastly from the grid. The system should be sized to meet the demands of your home so that in the evenings and during the night – when panel solar production is nil and home energy use is typically highest – the stored power in the batteries is powering your house. This negates the need for using grid power which is usually priced at peak rates in the evenings.
